Other Voices - Alternative Spoken Word Cabaret
at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival
with PBH Free Fringe at The Banshee Labyrinth

Other Voices brings you open-hearted open mic, feature sets from spoken word stars, and different special guests every day, all with a sumptuous cabaret vibe.

Every packed show will showcase a whirlwind of wit, verve, passion and panache – so if you want to laugh, sigh, groan, or dance with delight, we’ve got something for everyone. (And if you get inspired to get up and join us, there will be open mic spots just for you – get in touch to book in advance, or sign up on the door...)

With an array of magnificent women and their special guests bringing you some of the best of spoken word on the scene today, we urge you to come and hear some wonderful words from the other side of the door...

Who Are We?

Fay Roberts, Hannah Eiseman-Renyard, Tina Sederholm, Lucy Ayrton, Alison Brumfitt, Helen Mort, Sarah Thomasin, Chella Quint, Sophia Blackwell, Ruth Dixon, and Isadora Vibes are all experienced performers and event organisers who have taken part in spoken word events across the UK and beyond.

Support Us!

We’re all doing this for the love of it, and the venue is free, which means free entry for you lovely lot, but it’s an expensive business just making sure enough people turn up to make a good atmosphere for both audience and performers. So we’re asking if any of you would like to demonstrate your trust in us by pledging some cash (in return for solid, measurable - and collectible! - rewards).

Other Voices is taking part in PBH’s Free Fringe at Edinburgh Fringe. We don’t get charged for venues (huzzah!) and we pass that on to the audience so they get in for free and gratis (double-huzzah!).

Wonderful egalitarianism, true to the original spirit of the Fringe – we are rather chuffed to be involved.

However, we are incurring costs in doing this. Setting aside travel, accommodation, subsistence, potential loss of earnings during the Festival, etc., publicity costs (some of them mandatory) rack up rather alarmingly. These include:

  • Fringe brochure inclusion
  • PBH Free Fringe brochure inclusion
  • Leaflet and poster production
  • Advertising
  • Non-Edinburgh previews of the show
  • Teeshirts, badges, and other ephemera...
Not to mention other costs to do with staging the show itself.

So, despite misgivings from our stubborn, work-ethic-driven hearts, we’ve decided to ask for some help financially, to cover our publicity costs. We’re all taking time off to do this, and paying our own way, but good publicity will help enhance the experience (for both the punters and us) if it brings bigger audiences in.

Thanks! :)
